I don't know if you guys have swimming this week but our team doesn't because we are getting the pool fixed and it's spring break! So I posted a good cardio workout in the "Workouts" section. It has good legs, abs, and arm workouts. If you need a workout you might want to take a look!        ~Savannah

Thank you Martin! Our country is so blessed for what you did and fought for!

This weekend I have a swim meet and I'm really trying to get better times! I have been trying harder in practice, I I really hope it helps. It is an A/B qualifying meet so it is a little bit harder to get a higher placement. I won't be going to practice today but Briana is, I usually take care of the workout because she usually does the Quote of the Day. So she might forget to grab the set at the end of practice.

Happy New Year!!

I can't believe that it is already 2014 but I'm excited to see what happens this year!!

I have been wanting to start a new diet so that I can get in better shape and so that I can get faster times. I have been looking into a good diet for swimmers that way I can still be eating a good amount of food but not be gaining weight. I will talk about it with Briana when we get together which will be tomorrow and I am going to look up all the good meals and snacks that we can substitute from our diets now. Then we will post all of the meals and snacks that we found that would be good and we will post them in the recipe section. Once we have everything on here that we will be doing we will make a chart and we will put our progress on the chart. I will try my hardest to convince Briana to come to the cardio room so that we can both loose weight and loose time.

                                                                                                                                            ~Savannah

Fast skin swimsuits are a good way of dropping time. It is not much time but if you really need a second off then it might help. If you are a younger swimmer and you have not ever had a fast skin before than I recommend getting one with no leg pieces. If you are a more advanced swimmer and you have had one the I recommend getting one of the fast skins with the leg pieces on the suit. I hope this helps all of the girls!

As for the boys I really don't know a whole lot about the best type of fast skins so I looked around on different websites and I found this one. Hope this helps you guys!

The Fastskin3 Racing System: A ground-breaking advancement in swim racing wear. Break records without breaking the rules. The Fastskin3 Racing System- suit, cap, and goggles - is a unique, full body approach to swim racing wear. Combined, the pieces create one incredibly hydrodynamic, comfortable, and stabilizing setup. Developed in Speedo®'s innovative Aqualab, Speedo has focused their efforts on developing a suit swimmers want to wear, not a just an expensive suit brands want swimmers to buy. Consultation with experts such as optical engineers, hydrodynamics experts, and swim coaches led to a whole-body (and mind) approach to the FS3 Swim System in which all three pieces of the system are engineered to work together, unlike traditional suits, caps, and goggles that stand alone.

The Fastskin3 swim cap was developed using 3D GCI head-scanning technology to produce a design that hugs the contours of the head, wrinkle-free. The cap is the first to feature an IQ fit profile, which reduces full body drag force by 3.4%. The cap also features a new "Hair Management System"; a separate bonded fabric cap, worn under the silicone racing cap, whose material fills the gap in the back of the neck to create a totally smooth, drag-free surface.

Fastskin 3 goggles feature a revolutionary new design and are unlike any racing goggle on the market. Their Divestream outer profile and IQ fit fill in the contours of the face, thereby eliminating the drag that traditional goggle designs generate. A 3D sealing strap ensures comfort and unparalleled fit. The wide angle lens offers 180 degrees of crystal clear peripheral vision.

The Fastskin3 suits feature zoned and graduated compression, offering stability and muscle support where needed, which then transitions to thinner, more flexible fabric around the joints. The suit's body stability web is a network of bonded seams and panels that offer incredibly precise support that helps swimmers maintain form and streamlined position at all times. Suits come in neck-to-knee styles for women, and a high-rise jammer for men.

Fit-point markers throughout the cap, goggles, and suit help swimmers adjust for the perfect alignment, yet another detail that helps athletes enter their race with confidence and peace of mind. Combined, the Fastskin3 Racing System components become one fluid tool that in turn helps athletes become one with the water. Michael Phelps, 8-time Olympic Gold medalist, says the suit makes him, "feel completely at one with the water." The Speedo Fastskin3 Racing System is approved by FINA and will tested by the best athletes in the world at the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.

Today we didn't have practice because we had a meet!!! And the other two days we didn't have any practice because one of our pipes broke on one part of town so we had no water to swim in. And yesterday our high school swim team had a swim meet at our pool. Sorry we had no workouts I will post them next week thanks!!

There are so many amazing swimmers who have trained their whole life to prepare themselves for the tretcherouse swim across the English Channel. As you may have heard one of the most recent crossings was done by Rebecca Lewis in 2009 with a time of 9 hours and 24 minuets. This is the fastest time so far in the history of humans swimming the English Channel. This is a great challenge for open water swimming.

Sometimes people can be a really big pain, this could be someone on your team or even a coach. You just have to know who you are swimming for. Someone on our team has recently quit because of this, and it makes me sad that she quit because she wasn't happy with someone. The thing is though, she was swimming for her not our coach or one of her friends, she was swimming because she enjoyed herself while doing it just like all of us, but she quit. I hope that none of you quit for the wrong reason because your not swimming for anyone but yourself!

Whenever my friends and I go to a swim meet we like to draw things on our backs. One popular saying to put on your skin is "eat my bubbles". This is a very generic thing to say. For most people nobody eats their bubbles very often( unless you are in practice). Well other drawings or sayings you can put on there are " I bust mine to kick yours " or some silly things like that. You can also put a drawing of your team logo on your back. This is a good way to support your team. Always have fun and ask a parent when you are drawing on each other.

There are many different benefits that people can get from swimming. One reason swimming is so healthy is because you can do it your entire life. When you are in the water 90% of your body is buoyant. If you had done the exercise on land the impact would be a lot harder where as if you are doing the same thing just in the water you get mostly the same thing just lower impact. Swimming is also a good way to exercise while trying to recover from and accident or something like that. These are just some of the health benefits of swimming.

If your hair is always dried out then try applying conditioner to your hair before putting your cap on. It will moisturize your hair as the chlorine dries it out. This will keep your hair soft and vibrant. Also If you have troubles putting your cap on you can put baby powder in your cap after practice and it will absorb the water and make your cap last longer. Then the next time you go to swim it will just slip over your hair, but if you are like me and already have troubles with your cap falling off this might not be a good idea for you. Another thing to help keep your hair dried out is herbal essences moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. You can usually find it in the blue bottle and if you want a lot costco sells it in the big containers and they will usually last you a while. If you are willing to spend a couple extra dollars you can also get ultra swim shampoo and conditioner. These are just a couple helpful tips.

A good breaststroke technique for people who need a step by step. In this picture it shows her lifting up her head and looking up, try not to do that so much so look down when you breath. Also kicking is 80% of breaststroke so you really want to make sure that you have a strong kick and glide for about 1 second, especially when you are doing a long race, you might want to hold it longer in a long race. Or when practicing hold it for 3 seconds that way you can learn the method.
                                                                                                                                       ~Savannah

Diving is one of the most important parts of a race especially when it is a sprinting race such as a 50, a 100, and a 200 they all are a sprinting races, so the dives are a big part in the race. Some good things to think about when you are diving is to put your toes over the edge, if you are right handed then put your right foot up, and if you are left handed put your left foot up. You do this while standing up on the block so that when you take your mark you are ready to go. Then you put your other foot behind you and just rest your toes on the block, not your whole foot like you do in the front. Then once you take your mark you grab the block and pull back a little bit, that way once you go you can jump off you can go as far out as possible. Then when you are in the air try to have a straight body and maybe have a slight curve of your legs, but not to much. Once you hit the water you need to do at least 2 dolphin kicks and the first 2 strokes, try not to breath. Hope this helps!
